A homeowner found a 3 day old baby on his doorstep without any information. It was an extremely cold night and it was not sure how this little human survived the weather conditions. There was no way to trace the baby’s family and it was difficult to find him the correct medical help and a safe place to stay.
This baby was brought into the office of Child Welfare South Africa Roodepoort. Our staff was confronted with a sad situation. The baby was very small, hungry and cold. We were able to assist him with nappies and other items needed as we were donated some. The baby’s birth was not registered as no hospital had any record of the birth of the child. He had to be registered as he needed medical assistance that could only be given when a child has a birth certificate.
The social worker who was appointed to the case, found him a friendly family who raised many foster children in the past. Both foster parents immediately came to the office and brought their own children with to meet the new addition to their household.
Our abandoned baby was registered as Keamogetswe which means “You are Welcome”. This baby will be raised to believe that he is special and welcome in the world.
