Mandela Day - 18 July 2018

Mandela Day heralds the birth of the Father of our Nation, and at Child Welfare South Africa, Roodepoort (CWSAR), we decided that this was the most appropriate day for us to celebrate the Foster Mothers and Fathers that do so much for the vulnerable, needy, abandoned, abused and neglected children in the communities.

On such a cold morning, all foster parents received a hearty cup of soup that was especially made by the staff at CWSAR, and some freshly baked bread courtesy of Fournos Bakery, to kick off the event.

From the onset of the program, the message was very clear: “Foster parents are the beacons of hope - they are God’s angels on this earth!” And so, the function was aimed at celebrating, honoring and cherishing the foster parents of CWSAR. They not only provide a meal and a safe and warm home to these kids, but they also protect, nurture, guide, teach and equip these young children to be strong, independent and responsible adults – and who knows? One day, amongst the this group of children, we may see the next Nelson or Winnie Mandela.

Joining in the function was, Ms Miranda Davids and other staff members from the MTN Group, who sponsored over 50 hampers to the foster parents.

Thank you to MTN, Fournos Bakery, the CWSAR team, Mrs Debbie Louw, the Management Committee members and all sponsors and donors for making the day such a huge success.
