MASQUERADE BALL: 2 JUNE 2018

Child Welfare South Africa, Roodepoort (CWSAR). hosted its first ever, Gala Fundraising Event on 2 June 2018 at Hole in One. The Masquerade Ball was directed by the Master of Ceremonies, Mr Shaun Royeppen, and welcomed more than a 100 guests, including corporate sponsors, community leaders and benefactors. The guest of honor, was the Councilor Caleb Finn from Ward 70, who pledged his support and commitment to the vision of CWSAR. We were also proud to have present at the function, our community partners from the South African Police Services, Inspector Mazomba and Constable Mbuli. And of course the most special guest was Philiso Ndongeni, a product of CWSAR, who shared with us his story, of being abandoned by his biological mum at the age of four. Philiso entered the CWSAR system at a very young age, where he met his eventual foster mother, Maria Sebole (a social worker at CWSAR) in May 2005, when he was aged five.

The funds raised from this event, will be used to support the work done by CWSAR. The team of 25 social workers and auxillary social workers serves in excess of 1 215 individuals across 27 communities or areas – which equates to approximately 50 cases per social worker. Over and above this workload, the team also double up and runs a number of training campaigns and programmes in a number of schools in the communities – tackling issues such as gender based violence, bullying, teenage pregnancies, substance and sexual abuse, crime prevention, and foster care training, to name a few. And regardless of their work loads, this amazing team goes out every day, into the communities, with a smile on their faces - helping, supporting and aiding orphaned, sick, abused and abandoned children – and sometimes they themselves face the onslaught of backlash and abuse.
